According to the Census, Sophie was born in 1820 and was 80 years old. She and her parents were born in South Carolina. She had given birth to seventeen children and eleven of them were still living. Her son Herbert age 25 and two grand children, Sam, age 15, Laura, age 6, Georgia, age 4, lived with her.
