05.01.2008 - Picked up VW restoration estimate from Lee's Auto Body & Paint
05.12.2008 - At Young's request I stopped by the shop today . He pointed out that the rocker panels were rusted through and needed to be replaced. My instructions were to get online and find and purchase rocker panels ASAP.
05.18.2008 - I searched the internet then ordered rocker panels after Kim Young pointed out the need for them. Of course I never heard of the part.
12/2008: Stopped by Lee's Auto Body & Paint for a visual and an update. The rocker panels have been welded on and much of the rust damage has been repaired. I'm told that within a couple of weeks the VW will be sent to the painters. Photos.

11/2013: Dealing with Rusting Chrome Wheels and
Bumpers again
Four years after the restoration the chrome on Yella
Gal has started to rust. The bumpers were purchased new for the restoration
but the wheels were given to me more than 20 years ago.
The wheels were in good shape except they were rusted in area where
chrome was missing. The mechanic cleaned, polished and mounted them and they
looked good on Yella despite their imperfections.
Since I’m not prepared to purchase new wheels nor bumpers I set about to clean them up. A couple of years ago I discovered Nevr-Dull when the wheels started to rust. Nevr-Dull worked but it took a lot of hard scrubbing. So I took to the Internet in hopes of finding a better or easier way of getting the job done. I came across Quick-Glo. I waited for a warm day and got to work with both products. I found that Quick-Glo worked better for the larger rusted area and that Nevr-Dull was best at touch up or when the rust was not so deep.
Three weeks later and the wheels and bumpers and still looking good. The rust has stayed away. Quick-Glo and Nevr-Dull will be a parat of my regular car care routine.
